Lift Restrictions on those Naturally Immune!

Tell Governor Inslee:

There is no compelling or rational reason to treat individuals who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 differently than those that have been vaccinated with regard to COVID-19 related restrictions and freedoms as there is no evidence that an individual previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 is at risk of becoming re-infected and transmitting it to others.

In fact, the science shows that those with natural immunity should have no restrictions or requirements whatsoever, and that includes mask-wearing.

As recently explained by an infectious‐disease physician and professor at the University of California: “Natural immunity after COVID‐19 infection is likely lifelong, extrapolating from data on other coronaviruses that cause severe illness, SARS and MERS.” (see Marty Makary WSJ article March 24, 2021)

Numerous studies show that recovered individuals are protected because the human body knows how to develop immunity to newly emerging viruses. These recovered individuals show that they have indeed developed sustained neutralizing antibodies which protect from reinfection and robust T-cell memory to the virus.

Given that the immunity developed by having had COVID-19 is efficacious and robust, loosening restrictions for those that have been vaccinated but not for those that have natural immunity, is unscientific and illegal. In contrast to natural immunity, there is no evidence to prove that the EUA shots prevent infection or transmission.

While the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines (for only the tested strain and not for variants) is considered to be between 72 to 95 percent, depending on brand, the natural immunity is considered to be 100 percent.

Additionally, studies show there is another prophylactic option. The inexpensive off-patent drug ivermectin is 92.5% effective at preventing infection if taken just once a week. This efficacy rivals and often beats the current EUA shots since it has been shown to work for coronavirus variants. Ivermectin also treats COVID-19 at all stages: early, late, and long-hauler.

The WA State DOH Covid-19 Dashboard shows nearly 400,000 confirmed Covid cases, which means 400,000 individuals are naturally immune. We know that number represents a fraction of those who were actually exposed and now immune. Studies in other states estimate at least half of the population now has natural immune protection.

If it is safe for a fully vaccinated individual to have more freedoms and less restrictions, the same must be true for individuals who have recovered from infection, and the same is true for those taking ivermectin as a prophylactic, or choosing other prophylactic measures.

Tell Governor Inslee and the State of WA to immediately treat those who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2, and those choosing ivermectin or other self-chosen protective measures, exactly the same as those vaccinated, without any proof necessary.

It is time for Governor Inslee to begin trusting citizens to do the right thing, as we have always done in the past with all infectious disease, and will continue to do. Because no method of virus containment or control is perfect, those who are at high risk of serious infection should continue to take whatever precautions they deem necessary for self-protection.

In short, treat all citizens alike—the vaccinated, the naturally immune, those taking ivermectin, those choosing alternative protective measures—and trust individuals to make the best decisions for their own health and families and fellow citizens.
