Pass Intro 1572: NYC Rezonings Must Reckon with Race

The City’s land use review system is not working for communities. Too often, critical questions like “affordable for who” and “who are we building this new housing for” are left unaddressed by the process leading to distrust, litigation, and increased fears that people will be displaced from the neighborhoods they have helped build and sustain.

We need a land use review process that truly acknowledges the lived realities of communities across New York City through requiring the data that helps tell our stories—and we need your help.

Join the Racial Impact Study Coalition in our support of  Intro 1572, which will help answer these questions and equip communities with data that accounts for displacement risk, acknowledge disparities between neighborhoods and groups, and ultimately will help place projects into a citywide context during land use review/rezoning.

Use the OneClickPolitics module above to automatically email your Council Member and urge them to pass Intro 1572 to ensure that race is considered during rezonings. Add your own experience to the form.
