Ithaca 4 For Safety

Violent crime is skyrocketing in and around the City of Ithaca.

We must take real action now to bring peace and safety to the community we serve.

Join community leaders, your neighbors, and stakeholders from across our city to support the Ithaca 4, for Safety initiative.

The #Ithaca4ForSafety asks our Common Council to take 4 decisive actions today, for Safety in Ithaca.

1. Prioritize Sworn Officer Responses. There are 1/2 the sworn officers responding to 911 calls today than 5 years ago. Change our dispatching to send these officers to the most dangerous calls and stop outsourcing them to nuisance calls that are not criminal in nature.

2. Hire and Deploy the proposed Civilian Responders. We must stop talking about hiring non-sworn civilian responders. It’s time to take action. Hire non-sworn civilian responders today to address non-violent calls for service, to deliver resources, and to help victims reporting property crimes.

3. Restore and Evolve Community Focused Police Units. We want to immediately integrate and embed well trained social/mental health workers in to our daily patrol. We want to respond early together to stop crisis before crime and to respond after crime to help the community heal from trauma.

4. Reaffirm Our Commitment to Being Good Stewards of Public Resources. We must all commit to fight waste and avoid the expensive rhetoric driven PR stunts. Logo changes do not make our city safer. Say no to gimmicks. Make every penny matter. We are ready to embrace change. Let’s evolve and improve together.

Real changes, not empty words.

Action today, not empty promises for one day.
