Overworked and Understaffed. We have to invest and build station 7 today, before its too late.
On December 9, 2019, the City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Emergency Services Consulting International to conduct a Fire Department Operational Performance Study. The purpose of the Study was to evaluate current fire operations and their alignment with industry best practices.
The report found that the number of firefighters per 1000 population is roughly half that of the national average.
Your #VenturaFireFighters are over worked and desperately need relief now.
Since 1988 the City of Ventura has not built any new fire stations.
#VenturaFireAssociation firefighters are in desperate need of increased staffing levels and response units. Existing stations are full and don't have any room for additional apparatus. Additionally, there is already several million dollars of developer money set aside for a new station IF that station is built soon. If we don't do it now that funding will expire and will be gone forever.
Yet the city continues to approve plans for large products that will place even further strain on Ventura FD resources without increasing capabilities accordingly.
Ventura FD needs to convert Medic Engine 7 from a 40 hour unit to a full time, 24/7 resource. But Ventura FD does not currently have the facilities to support such a unit. The solution is clear: Build the first new fire station in Ventura since 1988 and staff Engine 7 full time.
Make your voice heard now and tell Ventura you support the construction of Station 7.
There is already funding to pay for a large portion of the of the construction costs, but that funding will expire if the station is not built soon.
The time for action is now.
