Tell PA State Legislators to Oppose Encoded Ammunition and Ammo Tax Legislation!
Pennsylvania State Representative Stephen Kinsey (D-201) recently introduced HB 1786, a bill designed to ensure the encoding of ammunition in the Keystone State. Specifically, HB 1786 would require retail ammunition manufacturers providing their product for sale in Pennsylvania to encode their ammunition. The intent would be to provide the ammunition serial numbers to the Pennsylvania State Police for inclusion in their ammunition database.
In a nutshell, this is ammo registration. Additionally, the bill requires that a "tax of five cents per round of ammunition is imposed on the sale at retail or use of encoded ammunition in this Commonwealth." What's the tax for, you ask? Believe it or not, that money would go towards funding a police-run ammunition database.
FPC sees this for what it is and would like you to reach out to your state legislators to tell them to OPPOSE HB 1786. Use FPC's convenient constituent outreach tool, located on this page, to directly email your specific state legislators to tell them to OPPOSE this ridiculous and unworkable piece of legislation. A pre-written email will be provided for you to review, edit and personalize prior to sending. We encourage all who can to reach out to prevent ammunition registration in PA!
