HB 41 is known as the Clean Fuel Standard. In reality, it will do nothing for the environment and will instead force New Mexico motorists to pay $.50 - $.80 per/gal MORE for gasoline. The gas required by this bill will be full of ethanol and other “biofuels” that have a proven track record of destroying engines. Ethanol, in particular, requires large-scale corn farming and processing which requires pesticides and lots of land and water.
As if forcing unwanted and harmful “fuels” into our gas tanks isn’t bad enough, HB 41 ALSO sets up a “cap and trade” scheme that would likely require New Mexico to be tied to California for the 'trade' of credits. “Cap and trade” is not a market mechanism; it is a harmful scheme of costly government mandates.
