Support the EastGate Commerce Center Project

The development of the Eastgate Commerce Center is an opportunity for Independence to attract over $800 million in private capital investment while attracting new employers who potentially will create over 5,000 family supporting jobs.  Northpoint Development is one of the top industrial developers in the United States and their plan for the Little Blue Valley will result in one of the largest investments and economic impacts in the history of Independence.   The Independence, Fort Osage and Blue Springs school districts will all see signifcant increases in tax revenue and the city has no financial risk as the project is being entirely funded by the developer.  Adding new industrial customers will help diversify our commercial electric usage and help keep rates low for all residents.

This project received unanimous support from the Planning & Zoning Commission as well as the Incentives Review Committee. The final step in the process is approvals from the Independence City Council with a final vote expected to occur on May 2nd.  The City Council needs to hear from the community that they support this project so that this isn't a lost opportunity for Independence.
