Albuquerque already passed a zoning change to allow up to 18 homeless encampments with sites for vehicles, tents, and other temporary shelters throughout the city. NOW on June 22nd, the City Council will vote on more homeless 'living lots.'

Since June 2021, taxpayers have invested, and the city and mayor have spent over $40 million on facilities and services for the homeless and mentally challenged with virtually no positive return for the citizens of Albuquerque. On June 6, a majority of Councilors did pass changes to zoning laws that will allow up to 18 homeless encampments around the city!  Now, on June 22 they will vote again on the possibility of MORE homeless 'living lots.'  It is time for results and for city residents to ask councilors to say NO to adding more ill-conceived amendments to the Integrated Development Ordinance!

Homelessness and addiction are difficult issues, but those afflicted should not have special privileges over all other citizens. We have laws regarding obstructing traffic, blocking, or living on city sidewalks and defecating outside of proper facilities that are not being enforced. Coronado Park is the perfect example of a long-term pilot project that has proven catering to or simply enduring citizens living on the streets does not work. Just ask the nearby residents and businesses! To top it off, a murder just occurred at Coronado Park too!

We need city councilors to have the political will to say NO to housing more people on our streets.

It only takes 30 seconds and send an email to each city councilor using the form we've provided; if you have more time, call councilors and attend the City Council meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
