No more wasteful spending. Taxpayers want solutions, a real plan of action, before more money is spent trying to help the homeless.

We don't need more money wasted on the serious homeless situation in Las Cruces until we have a serious plan to help the homeless and keep our citizens safe! The Mayor and City Council want to add a question on the next ballot asking voters to approve $5 million in additional spending for what they call 'affordable housing.'

The Desert Hope homeless housing project, which has greatly increased crime and and threatened the safety of Las Cruces residents, is an example of what the City does with funding for "affordable housing." People living and working near Desert Hope are suffering from break-ins, trespassing, property theft and damage, people urinating and defecating near their homes and businesses, threats of physical harm, sexual harassment, panhandling (sometimes aggressively), finding drug needles lying around, etc.

It's time for taxpayers to demand better accountability for the tax dollars being spent on homelessness and crime in Las Cruces. The best way to get their attention is to stop the open checkbook and reckless spending of tax dollars.

The vote on this issue is Monday, August 1st, so there's no time to waste. Send the Mayor and all city councilors an email urging them to vote 'NO' on adding a $5 million question to the November ballot. Use the form to the right; it only takes 30 seconds - please do it NOW and forward this to others you know.

PS. ATTEND THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON MONDAY AUGUST 1 AT 1PM TO GIVE PUBLIC COMMENT if you can.
