TAKE ACTION on HB 5471, the Illinois Gun Control Wish List!

URGENT: HB 5855 is now the gutted and amended HB 5471!

HB 5471 would not only completely outlaw so-called “assault weapons,” but .50 caliber ammunition, “assault weapon accessories”, and magazines holding over 10 rounds.

Changes from the last version:

  • New requirements for transferring guns privately and at gun shows
  • The FOID card "endorsement" for grandfathered "assault weapons" and 50 caliber rifles now includes "assault weapon attachments"
  • The 30-inch minimum length for rifles has been removed
  • Buffer tubes, braces, and weighing more then 50 ounces has been added to the evil pistol features
  • Adds grenade launchers and the ability to hold more than 5 rounds to the evil shotgun features
  • Bans belt-fed semi-autos
  • People with grandfathered "assault weapons", 50 caliber rifles, and "assault weapons attachments" can only possess them on private property, and a gun dealer, or at a gun range
  • Anyone moving into the state with "assault weapons", 50 caliber rifles, and "assault weapons attachments" has to apply for a FOID card and endorsement within 60 days
  • Changes the exemption for retired police: now all retired police (as defined by LEOSA) are exempt
  • Banned guns can still be sold after the effective date of the bill if the background check has already been started
  • The magazine ban has been changed from 12 rounds for all guns to 10 rounds for long guns and 15 rounds for pistols
  • Magazines owned prior to the ban are now grandfathered
  • People with grandfathered magazines can only possess them on private property, and a gun dealer, or at a gun range (aka you can't carry them)
  • Says that anyone moving into the state with a "large capacity" magazine has to apply for a FOID card within 60 days (I think it only counts if they owned the items before the bill went into effect?)
  • Retired police are now exempt from the magazine ban too
  • Gun manufacturers can continue making magazines for sale outside the state
  • The "Sentence" section that outlines the penalties for the part banning "assault weapons", 50 caliber rifles, and "assault weapons attachments"... appears to not be in this version of the bill?
