Confront runaway federal spending and overreach

The wildly irresponsible federal government has run up $31.5 TRILLION in national debt, all the while assuming powers and jurisdictions not given it by our Constitution.

A professionalized, self-serving Congress chooses to do nothing to stem the tide, abandoning New Mexico’s families and small businesses to unreasonable burdens and an uncertain future.

Our State has the power to confront these federally imposed problems and their enabling Congress. Article V of the US Constitution provides for a convention of the states to consider and propose amendments to the constitution.

Senate Joint Resolution 5 calls for New Mexico to apply for such a convention, to propose amendments to the constitution of the United States to: “(1) impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, (2) limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and (3) limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.”

A 2/3 majority of the states is the only way to get this done. As of today,19 of the necessary 2/3 (34) States have already made the call for a Convention of the States.

With SJR 5, we can be the 20th, but it must be heard by the committees to be brought out for a vote! SJR5 is initially assigned to Senate Rules Committee, but we need it on the schedule.

Fill out the form provided to urge the Senate Rules Committee to schedule SJR5 for a hearing.
