SAVE THE ORO MORAINE

THE ORO MORAINE (the Oak Ridges Moraine smaller sister) IN SIMCOE COUNTY IS UNDER THREAT and NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

Massive developments/Sprawling urbanization, Unsuitable and Unsustainable short term decision making are THREATENING the Oro Moraine’s SENSITIVE ECOSYSTEMS and GROUNDWATER SYSTEMS. 

Like the Oak Ridges Moraine, it is an ECOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT LANDFORM performing Ecological and Hydrological functions that are CRITICAL to the HEALTH of the environment and our communities. 

It’s rivers and streams drain into and effect the health of major watersheds in Simcoe County, and sustain the lands along their journey to Georgian Bay, Severn Sound and Lake Simcoe.  These include numerous wetlands many of which are provincially significant, forests, farmlands and more.  

It collects, filters and stores water in its aquifer’s which supply clean drinking water for thousands of Simcoe County residents. 

 Its ecosystem’s support diverse wildlife and plant species, including many species at risk.  NATURE NEEDS YOU. 

It is with very good reason the Oak Ridges Moraine and part of the Paris-Galt Moraine are protected.  People, government and years of research came together using SCIENCE FACT BASED legislation.  Using an ecosystem based land use planning approach.

The ECOSYSTEM SERVICES these areas provide (such as water filtration, water supply, reducing the effects of climate change via carbon sink, removing air pollutants and so much more) are all provided at NO COST to us and SAVE both taxpayers and government a lot of money.  For example, the Oak Ridges Moraine provides 3.2 billion dollars/year in ecosystem services.   VS sprawling developments/infrastructure that COST us millions or more when research has shown these developments NEVER pay for themselves. They are a financial drain.

Protecting the Oro Moraine is the financially responsible choice. 

We are in a CLIMATE EMERGENCY and NOW more than ever we need to Protect the lands and waters that PROTECT and PROVIDE for us.
