Bring Back the Child Tax Credit

Now is the time to reach out to your Senator about the cricital support to families through the Child Tax Credit.

In 2021, the Child Tax Credit (CTC) was expanded and made available to those with little to no income through monthly payments. Nearly all families received the expanded monthly CTC – and nearly 66 million or 90% of children in the country – benefited from the program. However, the expanded CTC expired at the beginning of 2022.

On January 31, 2024 H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, was passed by the House of Representatives on a bipartisan vote and sent to the Senate for consideration. This bipartisan bill expands the Child Tax Credit and provides tax breaks for small business owners. Estimates are that this bill will benefit 16 million children in families with low incomes, including 5.8 million kids under the age of six. This is the first meaningful legislation to reduce child poverty since the fully expanded CTC expired in 2021.

The CTC has alleviated stress and promoted children's health and well-being. It is a powerful tool to prevent child abuse and neglect and to foster a safer environment for our children. Use the link below/right to contact your members of Congress Today to raise awareness of the impact the CTC has for families and children.
