Speak out about absentee ballot concerns!
Absentee voting is a privilege. It should be reserved for those who are ill, disabled, in the Military and out of the state or country, those who attend college out of state, and those who must travel during election season.
There have been multiple concerns in the past related to the security and transparency of absentee voting. Concerns about overinflated voter rolls that provide for ballot harvesting opportunities are real. The Secretary of State (SOS) purged over 55,000 voters from the rolls from Jan to Feb of this year.
In some counties the rules for the actual processing of absentee ballots were suspended during the 2022 election, causing concern that the absentee votes lacked the verification needed.
The identification for absentee ballots was changed from the date of birth to the last four digits of the Social Security Number. It was stated in legislative hearings that the SOS has no way to verify signatures, so other means of verification are important. Real-time synchronization is mentioned several times in the rulemaking changes within this section. This has a direct reference to AI technology, which is also concerning since the SOS has known election system security issues.
There are multiple issues surrounding absentee voting and many changes that were made. It is up to us to become familiar with the law and rule changes they are putting forward. It is especially true for absentee voting because they are going to be establishing a permanent absentee voter roll [permanent mailed ballot voting].
