Urge the Governor NOT TO SIGN HB 41 - another TAX on gas and electricity!
HB 41 is titled 'Clean Transportation Fuel Standards.' In reality, it is a new tax on fuel producers (oil and gas industry & even PNM) and will do little to 'clean' the environment. HB41 will force New Mexico motorists to pay $.50 - $.80 per/gal MORE for gasoline and could increase electricity rates too.
Want more ethanol and other “biofuels” that have a proven track record of destroying engines? That is what this proposed law is pushing, whether consumers want it or not. On the other end, HB41 will impose a new tax on PNM and other electricity producers for the 'fuel' that goes into electric vehicles.
Don't be fooled by progressive lawmakers who are beholden to radical environmental agendas and say HB41 will not increase transportation costs. Fact is, the Financial Impact Report prepared for HB41 indicates the revenue from HB41 in 2026 will be "Indeterminate but Substantial." If increased tax revenue levied on transportation fuel providers is substantial, you can bet that expense will be passed on to YOU, the consumer.
Please URGE THE GOVERNOR NOT TO SIGN HB 41!
