Ensure that your vote is not lost, tell the Maine legislatures to vote NO to the National Popular Vote interstate compact bill (HP 1023/LD 1578)

Our democracy is at a crossroads, and it's crucial that we act now to protect Maine's voice in national elections. The National Popular Vote (NPV) interstate compact bill threatens to undermine the integrity of our electoral system and diminish the influence of our state. Here's why adopting the NPV is not in our best interest:

1. Loss of Representation: Maine's current system of allocating electoral votes proportionally ensures that all regions of our state are represented in presidential elections. Adopting the NPV would render our state's electoral votes irrelevant, as they would be allocated solely based on the national popular vote, disregarding Maine's unique interests and perspectives.

2. Vulnerability to Voter Fraud: The NPV compact opens the door to potential voter fraud and manipulation on a national scale. Maine has worked tirelessly to implement stringent measures to safeguard our elections, and adopting the NPV would jeopardize these efforts, putting the integrity of our electoral process at risk.

3. Erosion of Federalism: The Electoral College system, embodies the principles of federalism and ensures that smaller states like Maine have a meaningful say in electing the President. Abandoning the Electoral College in favor of a national popular vote would erode the balance of power between states and the federal government, diminishing Maine's role in the national political landscape.

It is up to us, as concerned constituents, to take a stand and protect Maine’s voice in national elections. Contact the state legislature and tell them to vote NO on NPV.
