Counting on You: Take Action to Save Our Sounds
You've heard our call before; now is the time to act—our cherished North Carolina sounds urgently need your help. Each year, inshore shrimp trawlers' chains and nets devastate fragile seagrass beds and threaten our sounds with bycatch—the unintended capture and killing of juvenile fish. This damaging practice wastes four pounds of fish and marine life for every pound of shrimp harvested, preventing population reproduction and rapidly depleting our once vibrant and diverse marine habitat.
North Carolina is the only state that still allows this extremely destructive method of fishing, devastating our native marine wildlife and their habitat. With your help, we can come together to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for North Carolina’s marine life.
Message your representative now to join every other shrimping state in the nation by ending inshore trawling in North Carolina once and for all.
Thanks,
