Tell Governor Murphy To Veto The "Rain Tax"

Governor Phil Murphy will soon decide whether to sign legislation into law that aims to cover the costs of managing stormwater runoff in cities and towns throughout the State.  Tell Governor Muprhy to veto this ill-conceived legislation. It is nothing more than a money grab for local governments that have mis-managed their stormwater policies for decades. Not to mention it will drive up the cost of doing business in New Jersey, costs that will be passed on to consumers.

S1073, which passed the Assembly and Senate on January 31, 2019, would allow local governments to set up their own authorities and impose fees on residents AND business owners based on the total amount of impervious surfaces they own including parking lots, driveways and roofs.

This legislation would have a particularly negative impact on auto retailers since they have large rooftops and impervious, paved surfaces necessary to display their vehicle inventories and offer their customers a convenient and comfortable shopping experience.

If Governor Murphy signs S1073 into law, there potentially could be hundreds of individual local and county authorities charging fees within their own boundaries.

Contact the Governor today through our online system below and ask him to veto S1073’s “rain tax.” Let him know how the bill would negatively impact your business AND New Jersey consumers.

Thank you, in advance, for your engagement.
