As you know, in October 2019 Governor Whitmer vetoed Pure Michigan funding from the budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. This represents $37.5 million dollars for tourism promotion for our state. This nationally recognized award-winning program began in 2006 and is responsible for $1 billion in sales for the hospitality and tourism industry.
The Michigan Golf Course Association and the Michigan tourism industry have been advocating since October 2019 for Pure Michigan funding to be restored. Our collective voice has been heard. Representative Jack O'Malley has introduced a bill to restore this funding.
The golf industry in Michigan now has a $4.2 billion economic impact and represents over 60,000 jobs. Without the continued funding of the Pure Michigan promotional program this economic status will falter and employment will fall.
