Thank Your Member of Congress for Voting for Resolution Condemning Islamophobia, anti-Semitism

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/8/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights organization, today called on all Americans to contact their representative in the House of Representatives and thank them for voting for a resolution condemning Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of bigotry.

While the resolution was introduced in response to legitimate criticism of domestic support for the discriminatory and segregationist policies of a foreign government that was misconstrued as anti-Semitism, CAIR applauds the bill’s text as a powerful and important condemnation of prejudice and intolerance of all types. H.Res. 183 is the first piece of legislation mentioning Islamophobia to pass either chamber of Congress and only the second to ever be introduced.

“We welcome changes to the resolution made in response to criticism by grassroots coalitions and voices of conscience within the House,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “Thankfully we are entering a new era in American public discourse where criticism of U.S. foreign policy towards Israel will not immediately be stifled by disingenuous accusations anti-Semitism.”

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
