Contact Legislators to Get People Back to Work and Help Small Businesses

The COVID-19 pandemic has damaged our economy and caused skyrocketing unemployment. Self-employed business owners, independent contractors, members of the gig economy, and employees in many industries have all been hit hard by the pandemic. This has put a tremendous burden on the small business community and those who have become unemployed.

Businesses may be able to train and hire individuals that are not able to return to their prior business or employer. Senator Ram Villivalam has filed SB 3992, legislation to help incentivize Illinois businesses to hire and train workers displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic, in the technology, medical and manufacturing fields. This can be accomplished through a tax credit.

This tax credit will be proportional to the size of the participating business. Businesses with less than 100 employees will receive a $5,000 tax credit when they hire and train individuals unemployed because of the pandemic. Businesses with between 100-500 employees will receive a $2,500 tax credit and all other businesses will be eligible for a $1,500 tax credit.

We must get people back to work. The proposed bill will help do that while providing an incentive for businesses to train unemployed individuals. Putting people back to work will create revenue for the state. Please complete the short form on the right to ask your state legislators to support this important legislation.

Our state legislators are only scheduled to be in Springfield for a short time so please consider sending them an e-mail today. Thank you for supporting the small business community.
