Oppose Petition to Revoke Governor's Emergency Powers

Legislators must hear from frontline healthcare workers. Sending a message is as easy as entering your information in the box, and pressing "submit."

Revoking the Governor’s declaration would have potentially dire consequences:

·     Our health system would no longer be able to coordinate with federal and local authorities on assessment, mitigation, and response to COVID-19.

·     The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness and the Louisiana Department of Health would no longer be able to procure critical items such as COVID-19 testing supplies and PPE for healthcare workers.

·     Louisiana could lose future COVID-related federal assistance, which could then also have a significant impact on the finances of our health system.

·     The Louisiana Department of Health would no longer have the authority to decontaminate facilities, including nursing homes, where there is a reasonable determination of a danger to public health from a virus outbreak

·     Uncertainty for everyone with private health insurance as to whether COVID treatment will be covered by their policy. There is currently a federal mandate that during a public health emergency, insurance companies provide diagnostic testing, follow-up, and treatment for COVID-19 with no cost-sharing requirement of the insured individual.
