End Violence Against Children

"He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight." –Psalm 72:14

Half the world’s children—over 1 billion—experienced violence in the last year. Violence against children includes physical, emotional, and sexual violence, and many of these children suffer other harms –through abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Violence can come in many forms, including trafficking, child labor, early marriage, and other harmful traditional practices.

Every child, in every setting, in every country is vulnerable to violence. Often the most susceptible and least protected are children living in extreme poverty, children fleeing conflict, and girls.

Historically, the United States has taken a very targeted approach to ending violence against children – creating effective strategies to counter one problem at a time, but now is the time for a full solution.

The U.S. has a crucial role in leading the effort to end violence against children. Representatives McGovern (D-MA) and Wilson (R-SC) and Senators Boozman (R-AR) and Cardin (D-MD) have championed House Resolution 230 and Senate Resolution 112 to condemn violence against children and youth and encourage the development of a strategy for preventing, addressing, and ending it globally. It is critical for the United States to provide high-level leadership and coordination around these efforts.
