Time's Up for Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue
Women are empowered when they are celebrated for their abilities, accomplishments, and ideas, and not just for their appearance or sexual appeal. Sports Illustrated honors male athletes for their impressive athletic accomplishments, and it is time for the magazine to honor women in the same way.
It's time to stop excusing the sexual objectification of women through hypersexualized photos that dehumanize their subjects.
Since 1964, Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue has objectified and dehumanized women for the pleasure of men and it's high time that Sports Illustrated's owners and executives eliminated the Swimsuit Edition entirely.
