Oppose Governor Whitmer's Anti-gun Appointment to the NRC
Governor Gretchen Whitmer just appointed known anti-gunner George Heartwell to the Michigan Natural Resource Commission.
George Heartwell, the former mayor of Grand Rapids, was one of the loudest voices calling for gun control here in Michigan in the wake of the Newtown shooting back in 2013.
He was a proud member of anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Guns” and publicly called for outright gun bans as well as a myriad of other gun control measures.
Whitmer elevating Heartwell to the Natural Resource Commission (NRC) would give him a platform to push his anti-gun views and gives him a voice in gun rights and hunting rights on state land.
The good news is that Whitmer’s appointment of Heartwell must first be approved by the Republican-controlled State Senate.
The first step for his appointment is a hearing in the Senate Advice and Consent Committee, which is chaired by State Senator Peter Lucido (R-SD 8).
Republicans outnumber Democrats on this committee four to one, so blocking this gun grabber from getting on the NRC is doable, but it isn’t going to happen without your involvement.
