VETO BILLS USING COVID-19 TO DEREGULATE ALCOHOL

Public Health is More Important than Public Drinking.

Under the guise of “business relief,” long-standing, evidence-based alcohol regulations critical to public health and safety were relaxed during the COVID-19 crisis.

With the pandemic's end nowhere in sight, it's time to acknowledge the existing level of alcohol-related harm, and stop ignoring the fact that permanently relaxing alcohol regulations will cause more harm than good.

Alcohol deregulation is a public policy failure causing our state great harm and financial loss. This failure disproportionately affects people of color and the economically disadvantaged. It is also places additional stress on public health delivery systems struggling to recover from COVID-19.

Gov. Newsom NEEDS TO VETO  the bills that will dangerously extend and expand alcohol deregulation:

AB 61 (Gabriel, Gipson)
SB 314 (Wiener)
SB 389 (Dodd)

No one needs encouragement to consume more alcohol at this time. California already suffers too much from over-consumption. Dunk driving, violence, domestic abuse, financial problems, the risk for liver disease, breast cancer, depression, stroke and heart attack all increase with excessive drinking.

It's time to tell THE GOVERNOR to provide relief for alcohol's harmful effects on our communities instead of increasing business profits. STOP USING COVID-19 TO DEREGULATE ALCOHOL & VETO

AB 61 (Gabriel, Gipson)
SB 314 (Wiener)
SB 389 (Dodd)
