Protect American Veterans’ Freedom of Choice Now!

Following a failed attempt in the last Congress to impose criminal penalties on those that work to help veterans apply for and file appeals for military benefits, the Biden administration has attempted to revive this harmful measure in their latest VA budget request. In it they propose the creation of “a single, national standard to serve as a general deterrent against bad actors and would allow for more meaningful enforcement against unaccredited individuals that are currently not subject to any Federal punishment for violations of VA law.”

Within that same budget request, they ask that “individuals could no longer become accredited as claims agents for purposes of preparing, presenting, or prosecuting claims for VA benefits.” This will further limit a veteran’s options when pursuing a disability claim or appeal.

These proposals would harm private businesses that provide vital Veterans Affairs (VA) claims services. More specifically, it will impose criminal penalties on those representing veterans as agents without arbitrary recognition by being “accredited” by the VA Secretary.

These proposals will deny a veteran the rights and freedoms of choice!

However, with your action, we can ensure veterans retain the right to hire whoever they wish to help with their claims.

It is vital that decision-makers hold the line and continue to protect our American heroes. Forcing businesses to gain accreditation means these companies can only help veterans after their claim has been denied. This should not, and cannot, be the status quo.

It is critical that businesses are able to help veterans from start to finish, without introducing additional stress to someone who has already endured so much. We must ensure veterans have all tools at their disposal to increase their chances for success.

Join us in ensuring that our leaders in Washington support our veterans, and the businesses that help them navigate a backlogged and confusing system by removing this provision. Your voice makes all the difference.
