Urge Ohio House to Support School Security and Pass HB 99

House Bill 99 became necessary after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Bloomberg-financed lawsuit that sought to force anyone carrying on school property in the Madison Local School District to go through the same training as a police officer. This complete judicial abuse of Ohio law would require a school employee to undergo more than 700 hours of training, most of which is unrelated to confronting an active killer.

The goal of Bloomberg and his paid-for, anti-gun advocates, is to stop the arming of school staff throughout Ohio.

HB 99 clarifies the law to specifically and clearly exempt non law enforcement personnel who are authorized to carry by a school district from police officer training. The bill would continue to leave the decision to each school district to determine whether to authorize a staff member to carry and what type of training to require for each person.

“The OSC ruling is absurd,” explained Buckeye Firearms Association Executive Director Dean Rieck. “Former Attorney General Mike DeWine and current Attorney General Dave Yost agree that current law allows school districts to make this decision, which was the clear intent of the General Assembly. Unless this is corrected, the 700 hour requirement would mean that virtually no school district would be able to find enough volunteers to fill this life protecting role.”

Urge House Members to support this bill and pass it as soon as possible.
