Stop Small Business Tax Collection Nightmare
The Texas House of Representatives is about to consider HB4072 which will require businesses to change the way we collect and report sales tax. Today, all the sales tax is collected at the point of shipment. If this bill becomes law, business will have to collect the appropriate sales tax amount for the ship to location. Monthly sales tax submissions will have to be itemized for each ship to tax entity.
Most businesses ship to multiple taxing districts, especially if you deliver your products. The bill does not provide a way to track shipments. It does not provide any direction on how to remit payments. Those things are promised in the future.
