Though Speaker Nancy Pelosi repeatedly calls on eradicating healthcare inequities and standing up for struggling communities, she has introduced a sweetly titled ‘Lower Drug Costs Now Act’ – H.R.3 – that does anything but lower costs.
H.R.3 promises to lower the costs of prescription drugs and reverse years of unfair price hikes. However, this drug pricing bill is a retroactive 95 percent tax on the most common and widely used prescription drugs.
- Who This Hurts
First and foremost, this hurts Americans that are already feeling the brunt of COVID-19’s blows. Seniors on fixed incomes, veterans, minorities, and low-income Americans.
Not only that, but this drug tax will force manufacturers to adopt proposed mandatory government-imposed price controls that will stifle the necessary innovation to combat new viruses, like COVID-19, and challenging diseases, like cancer.
- The Bottom Line
Speaker Pelosi is not only killing the innovation needed for life-changing treatments but destroying access to life-saving medicines. We must not let H.R.3 pass.
