Save Our School!

Lone Star Online Academy (LSOA) started during the pandemic, as a response to the poor emergency, remote learning programs created overnight by districts across the state. Children experiencing learning loss, whose needs were being ignored, found a safe and nurturing, online learning environment in this program run by Roscoe ISD. 1,600 children from all over the state enrolled, discovering an intuitive, innovative platform that engages them, with teachers ready to provide lessons to them in a virtual setting.

Our school is now at risk. A bill that would have kept the LSOA open failed on the last day of session because of a legislative walkout, which let several bills on the House calendar die. House Bill 1468 would have kept the school open. Now LSOA parents face uncertainty. Several hundred families had already enrolled their children in our school for the next school year, and it’s unclear if the school will still be in existence.

You can do something. Just because the legislature dropped the ball doesn’t mean the fight is over. You can tell Governor Abbott and Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath to keep our Roscoe-run school open. Just as they were courageous enough to issue an emergency waiver during the pandemic that allowed LSOA to open, they can extend that waiver and keep our school working for families across Texas.
