Appoint a Black Justice to the Chancery Court
It's time to have diversity and fairness in Delaware's courts. Research from the NYU's Brennan Center for Justice and others have unequivocally demonstrated that diverse court composition is critical for applying “equal justice under the law”.
Tragically people of color make up 60% of the prison population but constitute only 15% of all judges in Delaware. It’s time to let our elected officials know that we need diversity and fairness in the courts and that starts with appointing Black Justices to the Chancery Court.
Delaware leaders continue to “talk” about diversity while nothing actually changes. We need action. We need diverse courts now.
It’s time to let Delaware leaders know Enough is Enough. Appoint a Black Justice to the Chancery Court.
Simply enter your information on the right and send a message to the Governor right now demanding diverse judicial appointments in our court system.
Dear Governor,
For years, thousands of Delawareans from all walks of life have asked you to make diverse appointments to Delaware’s court system. Yet the Delaware Chancery Court is still all white, and there has only been one Black justice in the Chancery's 230-year existence.
I am dismayed that leaders such as yourself talk about diversity while nothing actually changes. We need action. We need diverse courts now.
In Delaware, only 15% of justices on the state's top courts are people of color, yet people of color make up more than 60% of the prison population. Delaware must do better. Just like President Joe Biden has made diverse court appointments at the federal level, we urge you to make diverse appointments at the state level.
I urge you to appoint a Black candidate to fill the open seat on the Chancery Court.
Sincerely,
