Help Decarbonize California's Industries
Senate Bill 1075 (Skinner) would advance hydrogen as a decarbonization solution by creating a fund to support a bid for a federal Hydrogen Hub fund, as well as by requiring state agencies to include green hydrogen in California’s plan for our state’s clean and resilient energy future.
Hydrogen plays a critical role in the decarbonization of California’s industries while continuing to preserve good-paying jobs. Renewably sourced green hydrogen can provide a scalable alternative to fossil fuels, both to mitigate the effects of climate change and to reduce dependence on economically volatile fuels. Despite this, green hydrogen is not adequately represented in the state’s climate planning documents, nor do state agencies have a clear plan for its deployment.
With SB 1075, California will be able to reach decarbonization targets by establishing green hydrogen in our grid and many hard-to abate sectors, such as maritime transportation, aviation, and heavy-duty transport. In addition to diversifying California’s energy portfolio, SB 1075 will ensure a dependable and cost-effective energy supply while combatting climate change.
With energy demands increasing and summer blackouts becoming ever more prevalent in our state, we have a crucial opportunity to create a diverse and affordable energy supply to support our state’s economic recovery.
