Access to high quality school facilities is one of the greatest challenges facing charter schools throughout California, especially in high-needs communities. AB 2484 (Bonta) before the California State Legislature would have a significant impact on charter schools accessing school facilities in high-need communities.
The Charter School Facility Grant Program provides partial lease reimbursements for charter schools located in high-need communities. But Assembly Bill 2484 will destabilize funding and upend facility agreements for hundreds of schools. Destabilizing charter school programs and discouraging high quality facilities that create a long-term community benefit is bad for kids and fiscally irresponsible.
