Rhode Island: Contact Gov. McKee and Demand He Veto Gun Control Legislation

In a knee-jerk reaction, Rhode Island legislators have sent three gun control bills to Gov. McKee for his signature.  Each of these bills is an assault on the rights of peaceable people in Rhode Island and has no business becoming law.  One of these bills, House Bill 6614, initially failed in the Senate Judiciary Committee, only to be revived by a controversial legislative maneuver.  Underhanded legislative tricks should not be used in such a way as to erode the constitutional rights of Rhode Islanders.

So what would these bills that have been hastily passed by the state legislature do? House Bill 6614 is a ban on "large-capacity" magazines, meaning magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.  Additionally, the bill would BAN all current magazines that meet the criteria. House Bill 7358 is a ban on the open carrying of loaded shotguns and rifles in many public places, with few exceptions.  Finally, House Bill 7457 raises the age for gun and ammunition sales from 18 to 21 and would require a permit or license to buy ammo.

Since the bills have passed through both legislative chambers in Rhode Island, they now head to Gov. McKee's desk.  While he has indicated that he will most likely sign these bills into law, he hasn't done so yet. So please reach out to Gov. McKee TODAY and demand that he veto this horrific legislation.  To do this use FPC's constituent outreach tool, located on this page, to write your governor in opposition to these bills.  FPC has drafted a sample email that you are encouraged to review, edit and personalize prior to sending it off to the governor's inbox. We thank you for your continued support and for taking action against this trio of gun control.
