With the devastating news about the Supreme Court officially overturning Roe v. Wade on Friday, we have a responsibility to protect healthcare providers in Massachusetts from other states that will attempt to punish providers of reproductive healthcare in Massachusetts in addition to the patients that seek care. The MA Senate successfully passed an amendment to the budget by Senator Friedman, but the MA House lacks a similar amendment.
While the House and Senate work out the differences in the Conference Committee, I strongly urge you to ask the conferees to keep this important piece of legislation in the final bill.
Governor Baker has signed an executive order with similar protections, but we need to codify these protections into law permanently. The fastest way to do that while states overturn Roe protections at a stunning pace is to include this budget amendment in the final bill sent to Governor Baker for signature.
