Oppose Earmarks in the 118th Congress
As the GOP conference considers their party rules for the 118th Congress, we voice our strong opposition to reinstating pork-barrel earmarks. Pork-barrel spending is an irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars, has proven to be a breeding ground for corruption and places further strain on a struggling economy..
With control of the House, Republicans have a mandate for common-sense fiscal responsibility. In fiscal year 2022, earmarks cost taxpayers more than $10 billion; bringing back the practice would be hypocritical and fiscally irresponsible. Congress must not circumvent the executive branch by directly spending on member pet projects. For these reasons, all Republicans should oppose reinstating earmarks in the 118th Congress.
