The amendment raises the rate of distribution from 5% to 6.25% annually from the LGPF - which funds public education. It was implied during the election that the money was needed for our schools. But even our Democrat leaders admit, "We have more money than we need," Patricia Lundstrom, Chair of the House Appropriations and Finance and Legislative Finance Committees in August of 2021.
This proposed increase in withdrawals from the LGPF endangers the funding for future generations of children. New Mexico is currently ranked 14th in the nation in educational spending per student, but 50th in educational outcomes - we are failing our children! While more money is NOT the answer, increasing distribution from the LGPF could deplete the fund altogether.
