Maryland Defend The Guard- HB0220

Take action and tell the Maryland legislature to pass HB0220 "Defend The Guard."

HB0220 requires a declaration of war from Congress before Maryland National Guard troops are called into federal foreign combat service. This simple piece of legislation supports the most crucial and somber power identified in the US Constititon....that Congress has the authority to declare war.

For 80 years, presidents of both parties have committed American lives and treasure to endless and undeclared wars. Congress has abdicated their power and authority...the power and authority that 'we the people' grant to them. They have allowed presidents to send our sons and daughters to fight in faraway lands with no definition of victory and no clear mission.

The Constitution was written in such a way that this was not supposed to happen. The Founding Fathers labored over the question of war and peace more than any other enumerated power they scripted in the Constituion.

The Maryland Health and Government Operations committee heard compelling testimony from passionate veterans, veteran's family members, and concerned Maryland citizens. No questions were asked by the committee but their attention was locked on the veterans providing testimony. We now must act to encourage the committee members to vote and pass the Defend The Guard bill out of committee.
