The heart of Christian schools are the Christian teachers and staff who bring this faith to life. Their future is now uncertain.
The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) is currently considering major changes to the way Christian schools operate. It recommends removing the ability of faith-based schools to operate and teach according to their religious values and beliefs. This is significant. If successful, Christian schools would no longer be able to hire staff who share or are willing to uphold the religious beliefs of the school.
The Commission will hand its final recommendations to Government on 31 April. The Government has asked lawyers for their input into this process. However, the Government hasn’t asked what parents want. The parents who choose to send their children to Christian schools and have done so in Australia for more than 50 years.
