Ask Your Representative to Join the Black Maternal Health Caucus

In 2019, Congresswomen Lauren Underwood (D-IL) and Alma Adams (D-NC) launched the Black Maternal Health Caucus. The Caucus was formed to address the crisis of maternal mortality rates in America. 

The Caucus is committed to advancing policy solutions to improve maternal health outcomes and end disparities. Tremendous progress has been made toward comprehensively addressing every dimension of the maternal health crisis in America, but there is still so much work to be done.

Thanks to the leadership of Congresswomen Underwood and Adams, last year Congress created a permanent option for states to provide 12 months of postpartum Medicaid coverage and made critical investments to improve maternal health across federal departments and agencies.

A priority of the Caucus this year will be the reintroduction and passage of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act. This legislation is intended to comprehensively addresses the maternal health crisis. 

Increasing the number of Caucus members is an important way to elevate the Black maternal health crisis and to build support among lawmakers to advance policy solutions to improve maternal health outcomes and eliminate disparities.
