I want a public comment period for new voting machines
New York is in the process of approving a new generation of voting machines that will affect our communities for the next 10 years or more.
Voting machines count our votes. It is necessary for them to function correctly in order for the will of the people to be clearly expressed and honored. When there are questions about our voting systems, confidence and participation decline.
Voting systems also have a major impact on accessibility, whether or not voters have a hard time voting, experience equipment breakdowns, or wait in long lines to vote.
Because of the deep impact that a new voting machine can have on our communities and our democracy, it's critically important that we have the opportunity to weigh in during the selection process of new voting machines.
Please send a letter to officials at the New York Board of Elections asking for a public comment period for new voting machines.
The letter will automatically go to all state commissioners and key staff. There is a suggested draft, but you may change it as you wish. If you want a copy, please make one before you send the letter.
