WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

LA County Planning Commission is considering their final draft of the Climate Action Plan.

The draft plan maps out 10 strategies and 25 measures to aggressively slash greenhouse gas emissions in unincorporated communities across Los Angeles County. Several measures exceed beyond climate goals already in place at the state level; numerous requirements are deferred to unknown future dates and are not clearly defined; there are no clear alternative compliance strategies. But those aren't even our biggest concerns.

EMPLOYMENT DENSITY: The proposal includes a density mandate of 300 jobs per acre for new jobs. None of the county's 810 planning zones currently support that many jobs. In fact, only nine have more than 20 jobs per acre.

WATER RESTRICTION: The proposal demands 90% of all water consumed – and 80% of agricultural irrigation water – be supplied exclusively by local water sources consisting of reclaimed water, graywater and potable recycled water by 2045.

Projects that expand housing availability, meet essential infrastructure needs, and spur economic development could all come to a screeching halt if this plan is implemented.
