Time is short -- act now to support Minneapolis' small business community!
The labor standards board proposal is a misguided step that threatens the very backbone of our local economy. Empowering an unelected board to impose mandates on small businesses is redundant, dangerous & risks setting back our economic recovery. Stand with us sign the petition asking Council Member Andrea Jenkins to sustain the Mayor's veto!
Petition you are signing:
"Council Member Jenkins,
Thank you for your continued dedication to the small business community in Ward 8. From George Floyd Square to the Nicollet Corridor, we need to do everything we can to support the stores and restaurants that make up our great neighborhoods. Today, that means opposing the Labor Standards Board.
This harmful proposal would remove decisions about wages, benefits, scheduling, and training from the business owners and put them in the hands of a new unelected board made up of individuals with no knowledge of what it takes to run a small business. This would have a devastating impact on immigrant and Black and Brown small businesses that already face unique challenges to keeping their lights on.
Minneapolis already has strong worker protections. We should be educating small business owners, and enforcing the laws that are already on the books, before handing power to an unaccountable board that will fast-track harmful new regulations.
We appreciate that you have raised significant concerns with this proposal throughout the process. Please stand with us, and vote to sustain the Mayor’s veto. The future of our great city depends on it!"
