Fully Fund the WIC and The Emergency Food Assistance Program
Congress came dangerously close to underfunding the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in FY24, putting eligible families at risk of being put on a waitlist or turned away from the program for the first time in decades. Thanks in large part to advocates like you making noise and letting Congress know that a cut to WIC was unacceptable, Congress ultimately upheld its nearly 30-year, bipartisan commitment to fully fund WIC in FY24.
Now is the time to lift your voice and urge Congress to ensure sufficient funding is provided this year to serve all eligible WIC participants. In addition to advocating for WIC funding, it is crucial that we push to ensure that administrative expenses for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) are fully funded too. TEFAP is the main program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that distributes food to food banks and their networks of community partners. Funding for TEFAP administration—also known as storage and distribution—helps the Food Depository and our partners get millions of pounds of food out into communities. This crucial funding was cut in FY24 and must be restored in FY25.
TAKE TWO MINUTES TO TAKE ACTION NOW. Let your legislators know how important it is to fully fund WIC and TEFAP!
