Expand the Minnesota Child Tax Credit

Investing in Families. Investing in Minnesota’s Future.

The Minnesota Child Tax Credit (CTC) has already made a significant impact—helping 224,000 families provide for their children and benefiting 566,000 children across the state. But we can do even better!

With 1.3 million children in Minnesota, expanding the CTC would provide much-needed relief to even more families, allowing them the freedom to structure their budgets in a way that best supports their children. A 20% expansion of the CTC would extend benefits to 200,000 more children and 112,000 more families.

What is the Child Tax Credit?

  • The CTC provides families with a reduction in the amount they owe in taxes each year.
  • If a family owes nothing, they receive the amount as a refund.
  • The credit is worth up to $1,750 per child, with no cap on the number of eligible children.
  • The average amount received per filer is $2,500, while the average per child is approximately $1,200.
  • Expanding the CTC means more financial stability, stronger families, and a brighter future for Minnesota’s children.
