Urge Congress to Protect NIH Research Funding
For decades, the collaboration between medical centers and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been a cornerstone for advancements in groundbreaking treatments, increased survival rates, and enhanced quality of life for children and adults. Lurie Children’s is deeply committed to continuing this partnership but is profoundly concerned by developments in Washington that threaten children’s health and the future of medical science.
Congress is working on Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) funding decisions, and the President’s budget request proposes a drastic 40% cut to the NIH. Fortunately, U.S. Senate Labor HHS Appropriations Fiscal Year ’26 bill contains a preliminary $400 million dollar increase to the NIH budget. This funding is not guaranteed or finalized.
The U.S. House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to vote on the NIH funding bill in early September. We urgently need your help to tell the House to reject the president’s request to cut funding for NIH by 40 percent. Please consider contacting your congressional representatives TODAY to make your voice heard supporting the lifesaving medical research that has comes out of these centers and institutes like the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute at Lurie Children’s.
We request your help to keep the pressure on Congress to ensure that this critical funding is adopted by the House of Representatives and included in the final budget.
