Please extend the phase-out deadlines for Net Metering in Indiana
Thanks to legislation passed in 2017 (SEA309), net metering is now in the process of being phased out in Indiana, and will no longer be available to customers who want to go solar after July 1, 2022. This is a very harmful approach to renewables in our state, and it is taking us in the wrong direction!
Net metering allows Hoosiers like me to be able to generate our own electricity and to be fairly compensated for it. It allows us to gain energy independence for our individual households, and it gives us more control over our energy costs and our electric bills. Why would the Indiana General Assembly want to take that away from us?
Please protect energy independence for Hoosiers by supporting an extension of the phase-out deadlines for net metering in Indiana!
Support net metering and energy independence for Hoosiers
In 2017, the Indiana General Assembly decided to put an end to net metering in Indiana with SEA309. As a result of this legislation, net metering will no longer be made available to customers who want to go solar after July 1, 2022.
Net metering allows Hoosiers like me the ability to generate our own electricity with renewable resources, and to be fairly compensated for the excess energy sent back to the grid. This allows us to gain energy independence, and reduce our reliance on monopoly electric utilities. It also allows us more control over our energy costs and our electric bills.
Why would our state legislators want to take those things away from us? Shouldn’t legislators support things that give us more independence in our lives?
This session, you have an opportunity to right this wrong, at least temporarily. Please stand up for your constituents this session by supporting an extension of the phase-out deadlines for net metering in Indiana!
