Tell Biden: No Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia
As your constituent, I am asking you to ensure President Biden fulfills his campaign promise to end US involvement in the war on Yemen and stop weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. I am asking that support the resolution of disapproval legislation introduced by your colleague Representative Meeks, H.J. Res 15 and H.J. Res 16, to block new weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Government has shown time and time again a disregard for human rights and the self-determination of the Yemeni people. Since March of 2015, the KSA has been bombing and blockading Yemen. This has created what the UN calls the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis.” Nearly 80% of Yemenis rely on humanitarian aid. But instead of sending aid to Yemenis, America is sending the weapons that kill them: a Lockheed Martin bomb sold to Saudi Arabia by the United States was dropped on a school bus two years ago in Yemen, killing dozens of children on their way to a field trip. I am tired of Saudi Arabia’s war being waged in my name with weapons that say “Made in the USA.” By further arming Saudi Arabia, these war crimes are set to continue.
In the last days of his term, President Trump introduced a $500 million weapons sale to Saudi Arabia. That deal is shocking and unjust — and you have the power to stop it. It is far past time for the United States to stop supporting Saudi Arabia’s assault of Yemen. The people of Yemen have suffered enough.
I look forward to seeing how you support this ask in the coming days.
