I urge you to vote against the extreme abortion bill currently before parliament. The bill is so radical it allows gender selection abortion and abortion up until birth. Please give voice to the voiceless by rejecting this abhorrent proposal. The current law fails to protect unborn children and the Termination of Pregnancy Bill, if passed, would make things much worse. The view that an unborn child is not a human being is not realistic or sustainable in light of current scientific evidence. An unborn child has: • A beating heart at 16 days • Detectable brain activity at 5 weeks • Fingerprints at 9 weeks • Fully developed feet at 10 weeks; and • A smile at 12 weeks Article 6(5) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which prohibits the death penalty being carried out on pregnant women, reinforces the biological reality that the unborn child is a human being that must be protected.
